Wallpaper
Collection

I designed this wallpaper collection based around the theme of the sea. The complementary color scheme is effective in creating contrast and drawing attention to the focal points of each wallpaper. As well, it evokes the right mood and feeling I wanted to create with the collection.

Sketches

After settling on the idea of the sea, I started working on sketching out several ideas. These were the five best ones. While sketching, I was primarily focused on composition, and trying to tell a story with each.

Once I had selected the five sketches I planned to pursue, I digitally painted each one, then image traced them in Adobe Illustrator. For this step, I focused on using value to create hierarchy, contrast, and establish base and emphasis.

Color Studies

I tested over a dozen color schemes, before narrowing it down to these two. The two finalists, while both worked well for the theme of the sea, evoked completely different moods and told different stories about each of the wallpapers. I decided to choose the orange-blue complementary color scheme because I preferred the warmer feeling that it had. As well, it works very well in establishing contrast and separating base and emphasis, which created stronger designs in the end.

Final Collection

I made some final adjustments to the collection, including some tweaks to the color scheme, before the project was complete. I made sure during the entire process that my designs would be usable as wallpapers, and continually tested them on my phone to ensure they would work for their intended purpose. And still, to this day, this collection remains as the wallpaper for my own phone.
